Victorian Govt Launched Rebates for Small Businesses to Save on Solar Energy Amid COVID-19

As a small businessman, you will always want to keep your operating costs to a minimum. Keeping this in mind, the Victorian government has announced two new programs targeted at increasing energy efficiency and cutting costs to aid small businesses in recovering from the consequences of the coronavirus. 

Two major programs for small businesses are part of a $46 million investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency as announced by Minister for Solar Homes Lily D’Ambrosio. The following are the programs:

1. Solar for Business Program

Small businesses will be eligible for a rebate of up to $3,500 under the Solar for Business Program, which would pay up to 50% of the cost of a rooftop solar system.  

For the first time, 15,000 solar rebates will be offered to small businesses, joining nearly half a million Victorian homes that have saved hundreds of dollars a year owing to the Labour Government’s Solar Homes Program.

This new effort will help diligent small companies save expenses, rebound from the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and become part of the renewable energy revolution.

Are you eligible for a rebate? 

• The Solar for Business Program will first be accessible to enterprises who own their own property, before quickly expanding to include firms who rent their properties. So, if you own your properties for small businesses, you are eligible.
• Small companies with less than 20 employees operating from non-residential premises will be eligible for rebates beginning in May
• Solar systems must be with a capacity of up to 30kW installed by Solar Homes Program dealers and installers.
• Install your system through only a Solar Victoria-approved solar retailer

2. Small Business Energy Saver Program:  

This Small business energy saver program is aimed to help small businesses install energy-efficient equipment as $5 million of support will be provided. 

Small businesses who are seeking the upgrade to energy-efficient work equipment such as air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pumps are eligible for up to $2,000 in bonuses. This will expand on Victoria’s renewable energy leadership.
